What The Experts Say...

HT 60, Low 71.
On the reverse, the C in DEFENCE is barely visible. Liberty Head with roses and leaves (the same as Low 70.) The reverse is the same as Low 70 except that a small 6 pointed star has been added on each side of FOR and one small berry to the inside of the wreath.

Extremely rare, as are all of the Bushnell pieces. The last offering of this was in PCAC’s 1999 Hard Times Sale where the Krause-Steinberg-Roper- Garrett specimen in uncirculated condition with old oxidation brought $5,040.00. This was the first offering of Low 71 since the 1941 Dunham Sale where Max Mehl commented that he could find no record of another of these tokens in the past 40 years! (He missed Elder’s Henry Miller Sale in 1916 where and XF was offered as lot #67!)
